Handbook Meeting in Brussels

📣 Contributing to a more systematic use of foresight in civil security in a concrete way

Today, at the headquarters of the Belgian federal police in Brussels (many thanks again to them for hosting us in their Innovation room!), several AHEAD partners took part in an intense work session. The focus was on defining the written and visual content of the handbook that the project is to put together in a final deliverable.

Meant as a practical guide to assist users in applying the AHEAD foresight framework, attention was especially paid by participants to:

🔅 The key components of foresight exercises, from scenario framing to output generation, with their description and articulation
🔅 The possibility to opt for a fast, lean or complete track to conduct a foresight exercise depending on the amount of time and resources at hand
🔅 The modularity and scalability allowed by the building blocks system adopted in the AHEAD framework
🔅 The way in which the use cases and learning points provided by the various specific foresight exercises carried out throughout the project could be highlighted as informative examples
🔅 The facilitation tips to help practitioners conduct their foresight exercise even when newcomers to the field
🔅 The referencing of relevant sources for methodology and subject matters
🔅 The user-friendliness of the handbook with features including a visual diagram making it easy to identify AHEAD’s different building blocks and tracks then select the most appropriate ones depending on the practitioner’s context

The AHEAD handbook is going to gradually take shape before being released at the end of the project in spring 2026.
